The Charles Dickens Museum
Picture Library holds the world's most extensive copyrighted range
of images connected with the author. The library operates for
the benefit of researchers and commercial media companies such
as book publishers, TV companies and film-makers. The Charles
Dickens Museum's photographic collection comprises over 5000 photographs,
2000 magic lantern slides, 1000 35 mm slides and a large number
of colour transparencies. There are more than 500 portraits of
Dickens alone.

An extensive topographical collection illustrates buildings and
places associated with the life and world of Dickens. There are
many views of London at the end of the 19th century, also Kent,
other counties and some foreign locations. There are also illustrations
to the novels, contemporary cartoons and caricatures, scenes from
plays, playbills, advertisements, film stills and a large miscellaneous
section including diversities ranging from the 19th century London
prisons to Dickens's pets.
