The Charles Dickens Museum is a registered
charity and a registered museum run by museum professionals, but
it always seeks the practical support of volunteers. We are always
looking out for new people with a variety of skills. People with
specific skills to offer are espcially welcome.
Volunteering
We need volunteers to support our various activities:
* Working in the museum and shop
* Joining a cleaning team when we need a spring clean
* Help with publicity, marketing, desktop publishing
* Help with education work
* Help at organising events
* Help with temporary exhibitions, including research
* Administration work
* Providing refreshments for visitors in groups
* Conservation and librarianship
In this section we list vacancies for
volunteer positions which we are currently seeking to fill. Please
remember that all positions are unpaid - do not apply if you are
looking for a salary.
Group Co-ordinator
This is an office based job handling the administration
and customer service aspects of visits to the museum by groups.
It is essential to have good ability to speak and write in clear,
businesslike English for this position, as it will involve letter
writing, e-mails, faxes and telephone communications with our
customers. It will also be necessary to be able to use a personal
computer and simple software like a Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Ideally the person should be available for two half days per week
and be able to check for and deal with urgent e-mails and messages
in between. By offering a first rate efficient response to enquiries,
you will play an important role in increasing visitor numbers.
Sponsorship Co-ordinator
The role of the sponsorship co-ordinator is
a new one. We are looking for someone to develop relationships
with local business organisations and to obtain sponsorship from
them for temporary exhibitions, special events etc. Good communication
skills and the ability to project a professional image to business
people are essential.
